ABOUT THE FUND

The Cobb Mitigation Fund (CMF) was established by Cobb Power Ltd (since transferred to Trust Power) to protect and enhance the freshwater, wetland and riparian areas of Golden Bay. Environmental initiatives which benefit the Cobb and Takaka catchments (including Waikoropupu Springs) help mitigate some existing effects of the Cobb Power scheme.

Project Mohua manages the application process on behalf of the Tasman Environmental Trust (TET), the fund administrator.  We welcome applications for funding from individuals, community groups and other organisations.

WHICH PROJECTS ARE FUNDED?

Some recent examples of projects we funded include:

• Restoration planting within the Paines Ford Scenic Reserve, Oxbow and adjacent sites. These projects are managed by Keep Golden Bay Beautiful, Golden Bay Forest and Bird, Kahu Land Trust and Department of Conservation
• Amenity and restoration planting of the Paines Ford to East Takaka Cycleway by the Golden Bay Cycle and Walkways Society
• Weed assessment and control work in the lower and mid Takaka Valleys, willow control in the Motupipi catchment and Oxbow at Paines Ford—all undertaken by Project De-Vine Environmental Trust
• Subsidised riparian native plants for Golden Bay landowners through Project Mohua’s Stream Care subsidy
• Riparian plantings as part of the Farming 2030 initiative
• Delivery by Tasman Bay Guardians of the Whitebait Connection Programme in a selection of Golden Bay primary schools.
